Our task for more than 20 years running has been to dramatize Consumerism, the biggest and baddest fundamentalist religion in the US. But we've never had a holiday shopping season kick-off that shows us the violence of our Consumerism as vividly- as this year's Black Friday.

We didn't choose an easy issue. Consumerism, the cultural enforcement arm of Capitalism, is everywhere and nowhere-- always engaged in its own normalization. So we think that the little screen: fashion, frequent flyer miles, western medicine, foodie mania; this is all OK without any intelligent review. Even climate change isn't a political presence to most consumers. We think the weather is ours to consume. But this year's shopping season? Showing through all this saturation advertising is the face of another child, killed by our Consumer economy, the empire kind, the guns and bombs variety. This week, our activism is energized by sorrow, our shopping is slowed by that face, those eyes, and another life.
