The United States is India’s second largest trading partner and India is its 9 largest trading partner. The total value of U.S.–India bilateral goods trade increased from $49 billion in 2010 to $74 billion by the end of 2017. U.S. states ranging from Texas to Illinois and California to Pennsylvania export billions of dollars’ worth of goods annually to India. What are the processes by which U.S. states target Indian states for exports? How regularly do they engage with Indian stakeholders to facilitate trade?

The Wadhwani Chair in U.S.-India Policy Studies invites you to the second public Indian States Engagement Forum (ISEF), which will focus on a conversation about how U.S. states, supported by the federal government and the private sector, conduct trade with India’s states. Specifically, we hope to uncover what the experiences have been of U.S. states in conducting trade missions and how the federal government and the private sector unpack which Indian states are ripe for engagement.
This event was made possible by general support to CSIS.
