All About Audiobooks

Brent shares some thoughts on the pros and cons of using audiobooks in class:

Cons:

  • No Self Pacing
  • Limited to the skill of the narrator
  • No annotation – traditional style audible lets you add notes
  • Hard to search

Pros:

  • Demonstrate fluency, pronunciation, articulation, intonation and more
  • Many students can listen beyond their reading levels and may find they have more to contribute than they may of thought otherwise
  • Understand the tone of the story
  • Bring life to readings.

A Thought on Read Out Loud Activites

Consider using technology to assign out lout reading activities to your students that they can record and then send in to you for homework. This will help increase fluency, comprehension, and proficiency without drawing attention to weaknesses amongst the students.
