SHOW NOTES:

In this episode I interview Bert Hickman from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary.

Bert is a Senior Research Associate at the Center for the Study of Global Christianity at the Seminary. He has a cool job: tracking the geographical location and movement of God’s global church (among other things).

Quotes from the Episode:

“You never know what fruit will be born in the future from your faithfulness today” – Bert Hickman (I had to quote him on this – it was too good not to :)

“The stories of the saints of the past are fuel to overcome the trials of tomorrow”

Recommended Readings:

On the Golden Shore: The Life of Adoniram Judson by Courtney Anderson

“On February 12, 1812, Ann and Adoniram Judson sailed from Salem aboard the brig Caravan as two of the first missionaries to go out from North America. Watching the shoreline disappear from view, they could not have foreseen the impact of their journey on the future of the Christian world mission or on the thousands of men and women who would follow in their footsteps. After a short stay in India, they carried the Good News of Jesus Christ to the golden shore of Burma.”

Go Home and Tell by Birtha Smith

“An inspiring story of God’s work in China during the Shantung Revival. A first-person account by a remarkable American missionary and conference leader. During her 99 years, Bertha Smith served as a missionary to China, and spent over 30 years as a popular speaker and conference leader.”

Things that stuck with me:

Jesus appeared to a Muslim man in a dream (in the middle east) and tells him to “call this phone number and ask them to tell you about Me”. The man wakes up and calls the number and sure enough, it is the number of a believer in that area and they were able to share the gospel with him.

The geo-gravitational center of the Global Christian Church is near Timbuktu and moving a couple feet per day Eastward.

86% of Buddhists, Muslims, and unreached people groups don’t know a Christian.

75% of people on the streets are open to receiving healing prayer if they are visibly sick or in pain.
