Today we go on a journey through the intricate process of Discover, Investigate, and Transform—DIT. Over the past two decades, my mission has been to assist executives and business owners in navigating their career paths, exploring what's next, and making informed decisions. The DIT process isn't exclusive; it's a versatile tool applicable to any decision-making scenario.
Let's kick off with the first two components: discover and investigate.
Consider your career path as an example. Many individuals express a desire for change, whether they're not ready to retire, contemplating starting something new within their corporate roles, or feeling a successful business lacks personal fulfillment.
In the Discover phase, you identify your core control desires, needs, wants, expectations, and transferable skills. Customizing work-life balance is crucial and surprisingly challenging, requiring a precise approach to avoid defaulting to predefined norms.
The process might seem overwhelming initially. As you unravel possibilities, perceptions shift, priorities fluctuate, and DIT becomes the only route to pinpointing the right answers. A list serves as a starting point—a comprehensive compilation of thoughts, subject to modification through the D, I, and T stages.
Next, we go into the investigation phase. This is all about specifics—extracting data within data. Needs, wants, and expectations undergo rearrangement as perceptions evolve. The analogy of being unable to see the frame within the picture perfectly captures the challenge. DIT offers an external perspective, a way to step out and examine patterns, behaviors, and personality traits influencing decision-making.
DIT fosters a focus on facts over feelings. Long-term immersion in a particular industry or role can create emotional attachments, hindering objective decision-making. The investigative stage acts as a filter, aligning priorities with the individual's goals.
Implementing DIT transforms the overwhelming into the organized, facilitating concise answers and revealing customized solutions. It's a process that becomes ingrained—a learned behavior, eventually guides decisions effortlessly.
Stay tuned for Part Two, where we delve into the transformative "T" of DIT—the most pivotal stage.
Let's go on this transformative journey together. It's time. Let's go.
