Welcome to the Elevator World News Podcast. This week’s news podcast is sponsored by elevatorbooks.com: http://www.elevatorbooks.com BOSTON’S THIRD-TALLEST TOWER TOPS OUT ON BACK BAY The 61-story, 742-ft.-tall Hotel and Private Residences on Dalton Street, also known as One Dalton, has topped out on Boston's Back Bay, Curbed Boston reports. Containing 215 hotel rooms and 160 condominiums, the development is the tallest new tower to open in Boston since 200 Clarendon in 1976. The source noted it will likely be the last tower taller than 700 ft. to be built in the city in "a long, long while" due to lack of space and concerns about shadows. Carpenter & Co. is the developer, and Henry Cobb of Pei Cobb Freed & Partners is the architect. NEW MANHATTAN LANDMARK 53W53 OFFICIALLY TOPS OUT A pair of American flags affixed to the top indicate the official topping out of the 1,050-ft.-tall condominium building 53 West 53rd Street (53W53) in Midtown Manhattan, a highly anticipated, Jean Nouvel-designed project that’s been in the works since 2006, New York YIMBY reports. The slick, dark tower features a diagrid pattern with gold- and silver-tipped setbacks on the eastern and western sides. Developed by Hines, 53W53 is expected to open by the end of the year. Despite the New York City (NYC) Planning Commission reducing its height by 200 ft., it will be tied with the Chrysler and New York Times buildings as the sixth tallest in NYC, and will be the 13th tallest tower in the U.S. RESIDENTIAL TOWER WITH THYSSENKRUPP ELEVATORS IN PARAGUAY thyssenkrupp elevators are among amenities residents of The Forest, a 24-story building designed by Bauen and the Argentina office of Mario Roberto Álvares rising in the Paraguayan capital of Asunción, will enjoy, infonegocios reports. Located 100 m from the Asunción Botanical Gardens, The Forest is a project of Paraguay Development SRL and will also boast a swimming pool, solarium, playground, park, multipurpose room and 24-hr. security. With construction just starting, approximately 60% of the units have already been sold at price points the developer says are more affordable than similar housing options. Inauguration is anticipated in 2021. PAIR OF APARTMENT, HOTEL TOWERS GREENLIT IN PERTH A 32-story, mixed-use and 23-story hotel tower developed by Far East Consortium in Perth, Australia, won government approval, paving the way for what the developer hopes will be a new entertainment precinct in western Australia, The Age reports. Making the towers slenderer and setting them farther back overrode concern the structures will be several stories above current guidelines. Part of the Perth City Link urban renewal project that will connect the central business district with Northbridge for the first time in 40 years, the towers will include 314 apartments and 263 hotel rooms. Construction is expected to start by mid 2019.
