In this role, Thomas manages contracts and oversees the service delivery team. Thomas joined the industry in 1976 as a construction apprentice at Porn & Dunwoody Lifts, where he concluded his training in the maintenance department. Since then, he has worked throughout the south of England as a principal lift engineer and lift and escalator supervisor. He has worked for Apex since 2000. D&D ELEVATOR LAUNCHES CAREER SITE D&D Elevator of Elmsford, New York, has launched a career site to attract the “driven, seasoned elevator maintenance professional with a strong focus on customer service, accountability and reliability,” it explained. In addition to information on licensing, the site outlines D&D’s Elevator Learning Center, apprenticeship program, company culture, benefits and, of course, job openings. DUBAI HIGH RISE WOULD CONTAIN 1,000-PLUS UNITS Shuaa Capital intends to build a skyscraper containing 500 hotel rooms and serviced apartments and more than 500 apartments just off Dubai’s iconic Sheikh Zayed Road to “address demand in the U.A.E. from the residential, tourism and hospitality sectors,” RICHTOWN reports. N Studio, the architectural and design practice of London’s Northacre, is behind the concept, which is being called Dubawi. A rendering shows a stacked tower that is, at the very least, 60 stories, with the Burj Khalifa in the background. HIGH RISES COULD REPLACE 1960s APARTMENTS IN VEGAS Florida East Coast Realty (FECR) of Miami wants to build four 45-story apartment towers and three commercial buildings on the site of a 1962 complex that has been home to former mobsters, topless dancers and other Las Vegas characters, the Las Vegas Journal-Review reported. FECR owns the historic property, The Palms on Sahara Avenue, one mile east of Las Vegas Boulevard at 713 East Sahara Avenue. Despite concerns the Las Vegas market cannot yet support high rents, FECR anticipates that is going to change soon and hopes to break ground within a year. The structures would include approximately 1,500 apartments.
