Moreover, the company states, various options, such as cabin design, can be applied instantly. The concept attracted much attention at the Dubai Air Show earlier this year, and VR showrooms are now in place in the U.A.E., Jordan, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia and Taiwan. thyssenkrupp said locations would be coming soon to countries throughout Europe, as well as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Egypt. INDONESIA’S FUTURE TALLEST BUILDING EYING 2020 COMPLETION Construction on Indonesia's future tallest building, the 70-story, 333.5-m-tall Thamrin Nine Tower 1 in Jakarta, has reached the 32nd floor and is headed toward topping out in mid 2019, Kompas reports. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox for developer PT Putragaya Wahana, the building will house offices and a Waldorf Astoria hotel when it opens in 2020. It is within the 5.2-ha Thamrin Nine mixed-use development that also includes the 62-story, 274-m-tall Thamrin Nine Tower 2 with offices, residences and hotel rooms. Schindler provided the vertical-transportation package for the first tower. ELLIES AWARDS VOTING OPEN More than 200 nominations were received for the first annual Ellies awards program. Voting is now open through August 31. During the period, each user (per Internet Protocol address) may vote for one company per category every 24 hr. Winners in each of the six categories will be announced in the December 2018 issue of EW and receive an official Ellies statuette, and a custom "Winner" logo to use for print and on websites/emails. As thanks for their efforts, voters can sign up to receive a free four-month digital subscription to ELEVATOR WORLD (by clicking on “Claim your subscription!”). KIDS GET UP-CLOSE LOOK AT ELEVATOR INDUSTRY DURING MEI TOUR Grade-schoolers who participated in a day camp hosted by Minnesota State University at Mankato, Minnesota, on July 18 got an up-close look at working in the elevator industry, thanks to a tour of local manufacturer Minnesota Elevator, Inc. (MEI), KEYC News 12 reports. Kids got to see how MEI employees weld, stamp, paint and assemble sheet metal to create custom elevators.
