Which is stronger - the reed or the oak? In this homily, Father Tom Dahlman poses that question multiple times, referring constantly back to John the Baptist and Herod. And while the reed, flexible as it may be, sways with the wind, it's actually the oak, which is strengthened by hardship, that stands stoutly against the gale. In the same way, our doubts, our fears, our anxieties, and all other tempests in life serve to strengthen our faith and resolve, making us into oaks. Because without brokenness, we never become stronger.
