At the dawn of the social media era, Belle Gibson became a pioneering wellness influencer - telling the world how she beat cancer with an alternative diet. Her bestselling cookbook and online app provided her success, respect, and a connection to the cancer-battling influencer she admired the most. But a curious journalist with a sick wife began asking questions that even those closest to Belle began to wonder. Was the online star faking her cancer and fooling the world? Kaitlyn Dever stars in the Netflix hit series Apple Cider Vinegar . Inspired by true events, the dramatized story follows Belle’s journey from self-styled wellness thought leader to disgraced con artist. It also explores themes of hope and acceptance - and how far we’ll go to maintain it. In this episode of You Can't Make This Up, host Rebecca Lavoie interviews executive producer Samantha Strauss. Today we are talking about how vital our mission is. Truly, there's a life saving and life changing need for this work. Helping the next generation of adults navigate and avoid pitfalls that can lead to chronic homelessness serves us all! It's important to understand the complexity of this issue and remove the assumptions we have when we see homeless people on the street that they're on drugs and alcohol or have mental clinical diagnosis. Some young people fit into this demographic but not all of them do. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/empower-life/support…
On today's episode we're talking about the existing housing resources in the Tricities area for unsheltered young adults and those at risk of becoming homeless. We'll also chat about our vision and some changes we hope to see in the near future to reach our goal of eliminating homelessness in our target demographic, individuals age 18 to 24. Local resources include Union Gospel Mission UGM (religious based) Oxford houses (drug recovery based) My Friends Place (13-17) Word of mouth ministries (men only) HRC government subsidies (available to anyone who qualifies but must have their own housing) and Snipes H3 which is the only local program specifically for 18 to 24 year olds. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/empower-life/support…
