Republican senators called on President Joe Biden to recognize Venezuela’s opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzales as the legitimate winner of the presidential election. Venezuela’s socialist President Nicolas Maduro had ordered the military and the police to patrol across the country amid growing protests.

President Biden announced new rules that make millions more borrowers eligible for student loan debt relief. If the proposed rules are finalized, the total number of borrowers eligible for debt forgiveness will reach more than 30 million to date.

The Federal Reserve held interest rates steady following a two-day policy meeting. But officials signaled that a rate cut could be on the table as early as September, if inflation continues trending downward.
