Course Description: The course will focus on basic bioenergetics as well as on the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems as they relate to aerobic and anaerobic exercise. Emphasis will be placed on the acute and chronic adaptations of these systems to exercise. Introduction to the physiology of health and fitness, while utilizing body composition and nutrition, as it relates to the physical educator will be addressed. In many cases, concepts covered will be applied to children, adolescents and young adults. Course content will emphasize topics as suggested by NASPE in Guidelines for Undergraduate Exercise Physiology in a Physical Education Teacher Education Program (March 2006).
