Eugene starts by drawing the symbols represented by the above name. It is the name of God. Christians would translate it as ‘Jehovah’ but orthodox Jews would say Adonai ‘Lord’. He asks for four volunteers to shout each of the four letters simultaneously. This is because, to Jewish Orthodoxy, the name of God is unpronounceable as the four letters should be sounded simultaneously.

He then writes the letters vertically, to represent a simple drawing of a man. It also represents God because the phallic power is rooted in the heart, so “God’s intelligence and His executive power, His arms; and moving powers, His legs; receive their drive from the heart, from feeling.” He then draws the “fallen man” by moving the phallic power down to the pubic level. The ordinary man, the fallen man, centred in this region, has no consideration or kindness for a partner. The key to successful relationships is contained in that diagram. To be an “unfallen” man is to lift the heart to the higher level, as in the first diagram. This is to relate from compassion and is essential for man’s evolution. In the “fallen man” the drive has lost its connection with the thinking (truth), and feeling (beauty). The “good” has slipped down and become “bad”.
