My companion podcast to my latest book, Everyone's Gone to the Moon: July 1969, Life on Earth, and the Epic Voyage of Apollo 11, takes a brief look at a few of the music genres that were present in July 1969. Bubble Gum music was still going strong thanks in part to a little help from a popular TV cartoon show, plus the world was introduced to two new forms of music - Punk Rock with the arrival of the band The Stooges led by Iggy Pop, and Glam Rock which was personified by David Bowie and the release of what would (eventually) become a #1. ** Editor's Correction: The second time Bowie's Space Oddity was released, it reached #15 in the U.S., not #5 as heard in the episode.
