Meditation is a useful tool that can profoundly affect your sense of wellbeing. Teachers may incorporate guided meditation into their daily routine for several reasons, as it can offer various personal benefits. In this episode, I spoke with Leigh Truss Smith, MBA, MSW, CPHQ, about why teachers should make this part of their daily practice. Leigh is a healthcare executive based in Atlanta, GA, and has dedicated over 22 years in ensuring the safety of patients and staff by overseeing quality improvement, infection prevention and control, patient safety, emergency management, and providing support to nurses, physicians, and other clinical staff who suffer from stress, burnout, and second victims syndrome. Leigh is a wellness advocate who seeks to integrate mindfulness and belonging into everyday life. She has facilitated multiple workshops and seminars addressing anxiety, self-care, self-love, mindfulness, communication, resilience, leadership, and team dynamics. She understands the value available through experiential activities such as guided meditation and has found this tool to be beneficial for stress reduction, anxiety management, and self-care. Leigh is a proud graduate of Florida A&M University, Florida State University, and Texas Woman’s University. In 2020, she completed the Cognitively Based Compassion Training with the Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Ethics at Emory University, where she honed her skills in guided meditation. Leigh is married to Michael Kevin Smith, and they reside in Metro Atlanta.
