Before joining Andrew College, Dr. Kennedy had a successful tenure at Midway University, where he was instrumental in expanding the institution's athletic program and increasing enrollment. His experience and expertise in growing student numbers made him an ideal candidate for the role of president at Andrew College.

One of the key factors contributing to Midway University's growth under Dr. Kennedy's leadership is the addition of athletes and sports teams. When another college, St. Catherine College, closed down, Dr. Kennedy saw an opportunity to bring in athletes and expand the college's athletic offerings. In just a two and a half month period, Midway University was able to transplant four male teams to their women's college, which had never had male students before. This move resulted in a significant increase in student numbers, with enrollment growing from about 230 students to over 400.

Athletics played a crucial role in this growth, with the college going from eight sports and 92 student athletes as a women's college to 28 sports and 631 student athletes. The addition of male athletes not only boosted enrollment but also created a more diverse and inclusive campus community.

Kennedy's commitment to student success is evident in his efforts to support students affected by the sudden closure of their college. He ensured that these students were taken care of by honoring their scholarships and matching their financial packages. As a first-generation college graduate himself, Dr. Kennedy understands the financial struggles many students face and emphasizes the importance of education.

Andrew College serves as a key educational and cultural resource in Southwest Georgia, addressing critical regional needs such as the shortage of teachers and healthcare workers. The college has a strong track record of producing trained nurses and respiratory therapists, with 75% of them choosing to stay in the area. This not only benefits the local community but also contributes to the overall growth and development of the region.

In his role as president, Dr. Kennedy has demonstrated a strong focus on collaboration and teamwork. He acknowledges the importance of having a great team of leaders and administrators who work hand in hand to achieve the college's goals. This collaborative approach has been instrumental in the success and growth of Andrew College.

While the growth of Midwway University under Kennedy's leadership is commendable, it is important to recognize the tradeoffs and challenges associated with such growth. Balancing the expansion of athletic programs with academic offerings and ensuring the college's financial sustainability are ongoing challenges that require careful consideration and decision-making.
