Your hosts Lorena and Herman are back to explore the intersection of nostalgia and trauma as we discuss recent allegations made against Dan Schneider, Brian Peck, and Nickelodeon in the Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV documentary series. You may not remember Dan Schneider, but if you're like us you remember watching Nickelodeon in the '90's and 2000's and you'll definitely remember the hit shows he wrote and produced including: All That (1994-2005), Kenan & Kel (1996-1997), The Amanda Show (1999-2002), Drake and Josh (2004-2007), Zoey 101 (2005-2008), iCarly (2007-2012), Victorious (2010-2013) and more. We discuss some of the infamously inappropriate material on these shows intended for teens and children like the "Nose Boy" sketch, Zoey 101 "backpack" scene, Victorious web extras, "juice from a potato", "Penelope Taint", "Amanda's Jacuzzi", "On-Air Dares" and the "Sugar and Coffee" sketch, "Pickle Boy", "Girlie Cookies", teenage girls presented as "kid eye candy", numerous scenes resembling cumshots, scenes involving foot fetish related content, and much more. We also discuss the toxic environment on set described as an "open secret" by former cast and staff members including inappropriate pranks and humor, threats and intimidation, soliciting massages from female cast and staff including underage actresses, and allegations of racism and sexism among the staff and in the writer's room. We cover Nickelodeon's 2014 investigation into Dan that had him removed from the set of his shows, followed by the second investigation into Dan in 2018, post #metoo, that had him removed from Nickelodeon. We finish up by covering Dan's youtube interview response to the allegations against him.
