This episode is a sermon that Tim gave at the Quadra Island Bible Church on December 22, 2024.
During the advent season, Christians all over the world take time to focus on the events surrounding Jesus first coming, and they celebrate the amazing moment in history when at the fullness of time, God himself took on flesh and made his dwelling among us.
As we celebrate Christ’s entrance into the world, we also see a remarkable demonstration of God’s faithfulness to his word. God promised this event through the prophets, and gave many accurate details ahead of time regarding Christ’s birth, his life, his death and his resurrection- all of which came to pass.
There are approximately 330 prophecies regarding the coming of the Messiah in scripture, 110 of which were directly fulfilled at the time of Jesus first coming. This means that there are around 220 remaining promises in the bible regarding the coming of the Messiah which will be fulfilled in his second coming.
In his final week before the crucifixion, Jesus sat with his disciples on the mount of Olives and gave details regarding the coming destruction of the second temple, the events leading up to his coming, and of his appearing.
Beginning around 400 AD, the Church began to celebrate of the advent and it later became part of the liturgical calendar. As early christians put Jesus’ first coming in view, they also took time to be reminded and encouraged that just as God fulfilled 110 promises in Christ’s first coming, so will he also fulfill the remaining promises regarding Jesus second coming.
Enjoy this message, and thank you for listening.
