Dr. Nijs is a professor at Vrije Universiteit Brussel and serves as a physiotherapist and manual therapist at University Hospital Brussels. He also holds the role of Scientific Chair on the executive committee of the Pain, Mind, and Movement Special Interest Group within the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP). In 2017, Jo received the Excellence in Research Award from the JOSPT (USA). In 2020, he was honored with the prestigious Francqui Collen Chair, awarded by the University of Hasselt, Belgium. Additionally, he is the incumbent of the Chair in 'Exercise Immunology and Chronic Fatigue in Health and Disease,' funded by the European College for Decongestive Lymphatic Therapy. He has co-authored more than 300 peer-reviewed publications, with work featured in high-impact journals like The Lancet, JAMA Neurology, and The Lancet Rheumatology.
