Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News.
Tai-Ex opening
The Tai-Ex opened down 500-points this morning from yesterday's close, at
22,141 on turnover of 12-billion N-T.
The market moved sharply higher on Thursday on the back of renewed investor
interest in tech heavyweights.
This comes after Wall Street made strong gains as Big Tech stocks drove a
rally for U-S indexes.
Electronic heavyweights helped push the main board over the 60-day moving
average of around 22,300 points.
Precision Live-Fire Missile Drills Slated for Late August
Reports say the military will be holding precision (精確) live-fire missile
drills later this month.
Sources are being cited as saying the drills will be taking place in areas
around Jiupeng Base in Pingtung's Manjhou Township.
Source also say coast guard patrol vessels are expected to be equipped with
anti-ship missiles to train alongside the Navy's warships.
The Maritime and Port Bureau has issued a statement saying areas affected by
the live-fire exercises will include sea and air spaces around Taitung and
Pingtung counties, as well as around Green and Orchid islands.
UK New Police Unit
The UK Prime Minister has announced a new national police unit to prevent
violent disorder in the wake of (繼…之後) violent protests, following the
killing of three children in a stabbing attack on Monday in Northwest
England.
Simon Gaitan has more from London.
Nigeria Protesters Clash with Police
Security forces have fired gunshots and tear gas to quell mass protests
across Nigeria.
Thousands were on the streets to rally against the country’s spiraling
economy.
At least two people were reported killed in northern Niger state where
protesters clashed with security forces after blocking a major road on
Thursday.
Police opened fire in at least two other states.
The protesters demanded an end to governance that has rendered the people of
Niger, which is Africa's top oil producer, among the poorest in the world.
Rights groups denounced the violence and said police used excessive force.
Activists said the demonstrations would continue until their demands are met.
Turkey President Urges Pope to Stand Against Olympic Drag Queen Performance
Turkish officials say President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has spoken with Pope
Francis about the “immoral (不道德) display” at the opening ceremony of the
Paris Olympics.
During Thursday's telephone call, Erdogan urged a unified stance against acts
that ridicule sacred values, according to a statement from Erdogan’s office.
In an unprecedented (無先例的) display of inclusivity, drag queens took
center stage at the ceremony last week.
But it also attracted criticism over a tableau reminiscent of Leonardo da
Vinci’s “The Last Supper.”
That was the I.C.R.T. news,
Check in again tomorrow for our simplified version of the news, uploaded
every day in the afternoon.
Enjoy the rest of your day, I'm _____.
