Tai-Ex opening
The Tai-Ex opened down 178 -points this morning from Friday's close, at
22,643 on turnover of 6.9-billion N-T.
The Tai-Ex lost ground on Friday, despite Wall Street rising to an another
all-time high overnight and other regional markets moving mostly higher,
fueled by China's moves to revive (復活) its economy.
Two More Suspects Detained in Core Pacific City Investigation
The Taipei District Court has ordered two more suspects in the Core Pacific
City investigation to be detained for their alleged involvement in the case.
The latest suspects to have been ordered detained are former Dingyue
Development Corporation President Zhu Ya-hu and Lee Wen-zong, the former
director-general of former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je's office in 2015.
Both suspects were questioned late Friday and into Saturday before
prosecutors applied for detention orders (羈留令).
Zhu and Lee were questioned after prosecutors and officials from the Agency
Against Corruption launched a second wave of searches on 29 locations last
Friday.
Seven people have so far been detained in connection with the investigation,
which was launched in May.
Former Hong Kong Lawmaker to Open Restaurant in Taipei
Former Hong Kong lawmaker and pro-democracy activist Tanya Chan has announced
she's opening a new restaurant in Taipei and will serve as its head chef.
Chan moved to Taiwan three years ago.
And and she's taken to Facebook to say the restaurant will be called "Red
Cotton" and will be located in the city's Songshan District.
According to Chan, she rarely (很少) had time to cook during her previous
life as a lawyer and lawmaker in Hong Kong, but after coming to Taiwan she
missed the flavors of Hong Kong.
Chan served as a legislative councilor for Hong Kong Island from 2008 to 2012
and again from 2016 to 2020.

Macao Leader Candidate on Goals
The sole candidate in the election for Macao’s next leader has pledged to
diversify the economy of the Chinese casino city, a goal previously laid out
by Beijing.
Sam Hou-fai, the city’s former top judge, told reporters that the
diversification is a key issue he must address.
He told election committee members who will vote on Oct. 13 that the city
learnt a lesson from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Macao’s tourism and gaming industries suffered a big slump because of the
virus controls.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed hopes that the former Portuguese
colony can promote healthy and sustainable (可持續的) economic development.
Macao is the only place in China where casinos are legal.
