Small group questions:
1.) What comes to mind when you think of the Book of Revelation?
2.) Why do you think Jesus used so much symbolism in the book?
3.) John lived to be a very old man. He called himself, “the disciple that Jesus
loved”. What else do we know about him?
Read Zechariah 12:10, “Then I will pour out a spirit of grace and prayer on the
family of David and on the people of Jerusalem. They will look on me whom
they have pierced and mourn for him as for an only son. They will grieve
bitterly for him as for a firstborn son who has died.” Compare that to
Revelation1:7, Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven. And everyone will
see him— even those who pierced him. And all the nations of the world will mourn for him. Yes! Amen!”
4.) Are the two Scriptures above the same event? How will the Jewish nation
respond when Jesus reveals himself to them? It is similar to the story of
Joseph when Joseph reveals himself to his brothers. What a shock in both
stories!
5.) Jesus has the keys to death and the grave. How did he get them and what
does that mean to us?
6.) The emperor Domitian wanted to silence John and instead it has led to the book of Revelation and the revealing of the future. Who won that one? Often what looks like a defeat is turned around into a victory. Can you think of any more Biblical or personal examples of this?
7.) Revelation is like a spiritual time machine. It takes place in three-time dimensions and two places. Explain what that means.
8.) There is a blessing for reading the book of Revelation publicly as well as for those who hear the message and obey. What do you think that is?
9.) Jesus is the prototype of those who rise from the dead.
1 John 3:2-3 says,
“Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. And all who have this eager
expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure.” Explain this.
10.) Are you afraid of the future? Does God want you to be afraid?
