Welcome to the first episode of a new podcast in which Guardian sports writer Sachin Nakrani explores the experiences and emotions of being a football fan with a range of different and interesting guests. Childhood memories, favourite players and games, present-day highs and lows as well as hopes for the future – it'll all be discussed alongside a whole lot more.

Joining Sachin on this debut show is Evertonian and host of The Blue Room podcast, Matt Jones. Matt talks about the sense of apathy that has gripped him and fellow Blues in recent years and how it is partly based on results and partly on the difficult relationship Everton have with their Red rivals across the park.

The discussion then moves onto the rather eclectic makeup of Matt's family, which includes perhaps the nicest and most forgiving granddad in the world, before Matt goes onto wax lyrical about the two best players he has seen during his time following Everton - a thrilling Russian winger and the local lad who had it all.

Finally, there's some chat about Goodison Park - its past, present and future - before Matt talks through his all-time Everton XI and reveals his Wembley wish.

Enjoy!
