- Mets Try to Figure Out Their Owner’s Goal for the Season - The New York Times — When the Mets gathered for the first time this spring in Port St. Lucie, Fla., and the owner, Fred Wilpon, gave his annual state-of-the-franchise address, he said there was only one objective for the coming season. Not a division title. Not the pennant. Not the World Series. "We want to play . . ." Wilpon paused for emphasis, "meaningful games." With that, the catchphrase for a new season was born, and a clubhouse was completely confused. "Meaningful games?" Mike Cameron said. "What does that mean?"

- Occupy Minute Maid Park | Whitney Pastorek for Grantland — New owner Jim Crane is getting a proposed $65 million kickback to move the Houston Astros to the American League. For that and that alone, he should have been prohibited from buying the team, since he seems to lack respect for tradition or legacy, possess no understanding that the designated hitter makes baseball less interesting, and it’s possible he just wants to own a major league baseball team because it’ll look good hanging over the fireplace in his trophy room. After all, anyone willing to pony up $680 million for baseball’s worst franchise can’t know all that much about the game to begin with.
- Radical Realignment - BR Bullpen — Radical Realignment was a plan for realignment set forth by then acting Commissioner Bud Selig in 1997. Selig's plan would have realigned baseball's leagues and divisions by geography. The plan was part of the Expansion of 1998 process.
