Today, we're dipping into the archives to share the extended cut of my conversation with Obi Okolo from Season 4, which we recorded in June 2020. Obiekwe "Obi" Okolo is a Nigerian American photographer, multimedia artist, and reluctant writer. He's also Creative Director at BitterSweet Creative and the Arts & Culture Editor for BitterSweet Monthly. Raised in Lagos, Nigeria, and San Antonio, Texas, his work, from an early career in architecture to his recent explorations in the written word and portraiture, are most concerned with articulating the reconciling of humanity to itself—mirroring the lifelong reconciliation at play within his own identity as a child of two worlds. Obi’s work has been displayed in various mediums, navigating disciplines such as portraiture, documentary photography, product and graphic design, exhibitions, and print.

In this absolute gem of an episode, you'll hear Obi and I discuss

  • The struggle to justify the validity of art and creativity
  • The ego work every creative person must go through
  • Design as necessity
  • Loosening our trust in productivity, and strengthening our trust in the process
