Episode 8 7/21/23 - PART 2 - Forgiving Others - Even When It Is Hard

In this episode, the ladies continue the discussion on the importance of forgiveness and how to forgive others even when it is hard. Therefore, what is forgiveness? Forgiveness is a process and part of the process is being able to forgive those that have hurt in order to fully heal. Also, it is about not holding grudges and learning to let go so that you can move forward. During this process there are myths that we have heard from other people and some truths that we have been able to learn. In addition, there are some things that can help during the journey.

Here are some things that can be helpful doing this journey:

  • Prayer - praying daily for the person that you want to forgive and for yourself

  • Journaling - a way to get your thoughts out on paper instead of going off on the person that has upset you

  • Pause - walk away and take the time to process through your feelings and give them time

  • Fellowship - surround yourself with people that will uplift you, pray with you, pray for you, and will listen to you without judgment

On this journey of forgiveness you cannot expect people to apologize or process their feelings the same way that you do. Also, do not expect that the person will understand how you felt or are feeling about the situation. In addition, be in a healed space to accept that you may not get the apology and that is okay. Sometimes we have to limit our interactions with others so everyone can take the time to begin that healing process. Things to keep in mind along this journey:

  • Healing isn’t linear, it is a process but it takes consistency. Be authentic no matter where that other person is on their journey

  • Your journey is unique to you and it looks different for everyone

  • Be real with yourself and know that sometimes we do harm to others unintentionally by the words we speak. Be mindful of your reactions and responses.

  • Have an understanding that people may not be equipped with the necessary tools and skill sets as you do so you have to meet them where they are. Then decide what will work for you and make the choice whether to stay with it or step away to take the time needed to heal

  • It is hard to forgive but starting the journey is what is important and give yourself grace

Please remember that what happened to you is NOT your fault but healing is YOUR responsibility!
