Around the world, women build peace through mobilization in civil society. At the same time, we see a global trend of militarized societies and shrinking democratic space. Particularly, women’s rights defenders are constantly being threatened as a consequence of their work.

Anne Atambo is the President of the Kenyan section of Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF Kenya). She is a young women’s rights activist, with experiences of mobilizing women to prevent conflict and promote democracy. FUF and the Swedish section of WILPF (IKFF) invited Anne for an informal talk on the importance of women’s inclusion in building sustainable peace, and effective and creative ways to do so.

The seminar took place on 26 September 2019, and was moderated by Helena Bjuremalm, Deputy Head of Unit for Democracy and Human Rights at Sida.
