Members Reviews: The first book I have tried from this author. ... The first book I have tried from this author. It was an ok read but just that. I will give her another try sometime on another book but I have to admit I was hoping for much more than I got from this one. A good read..very likable characters.. I enjoyed the book..The story did drag a bit but still held my interest..I really liked that the children were actual people in the book not just mentioned as scenery..I liked that the love story developed slowly and that they each were careful with their decisions..Enjoyable story with many likeable characters.. Four Stars Good read! A historical to fall in love with Life in the south after the Civil War was a time of great disillusionment â land grabs, carpetbaggers and yankees everywhere. Matt Coltrane heads home to Texas to keep his land from being stolen right out from under him. He intends to live out his days alone, war has cured him of any liking for his fellow man. But when Laine, the only woman he has ever cared for is introuble he vows to do whatever he can to protect her. After her parents were killed and her home was burned down around her, Laine fled to the bayou with her siblings. Now she needs help, but her heart tells her to trust any man, even Matt A well written love story about a period in history that doesnât get the attention is deserves. Cantrellâs depiction of Reformation is as stark as it is realistic. Well done Coming home should not be this hard This post-Civil War story is set in Texas swamp land. Dispossessed Southerners struggle to scratch out a meager subsistence in mosquito and alligator infested wasteland. Despite the hardship of trying to survive where no one else wants to travel, let alone live, there are carpet-baggers whose joy in life is to tax, burn-out, and imprison any Southerners who dare to attempt family life. The villains are evil; the heros are not perfect, but certainly worthy of our sympathy. A very enjoyable story. Contact me for any questions: inforeq17@gmail.com
