The data are stark and incontrovertible: In Eastern and Southern Africa, girls account for 80 percent of all new HIV infections among adolescents, and HIV/AIDS is the leading cause of death for girls aged 15-19. With some 7,000 girls and young women aged 15-24 infected every week, the goal of an AIDS-free generation cannot be achieved without a dramatic new approach to this population. Recently launched partnerships, including DREAMS and the All In Initiative, are offering promising platforms for coordinated action.

Please join CSIS and Friends of the Global Fight Against AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria for a high-level discussion of the value of multisectoral approaches to addressing the critical problem of HIV in adolescent girls and young women.

Speakers:

Ambassador Deborah Birx
U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator

Ambassador Mark Dybul
Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria

Judith Bruce
Senior Associate and Policy Analyst at Population Council

Deborah Derrick
President of Friends of the Global Fight

Moderator:

Janet Fleischman
