My son, if you receive my words

and treasure up my commandments with you,

2 making your ear attentive to wisdom

and inclining your heart to understanding;

3 yes, if you call out for insight

and raise your voice for understanding,

4 if you seek it like silver

and search for it as for hidden treasures,

5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord

and find the knowledge of God.

Prov 2:1-5 ESV

SEEK WISDOM AS HIDDEN TREASURES

In Proverbs 1, we learn that wisdom offers herself to be found easily as one crying loud at the street. Yet, she is hard to obtain without effort. he who wants her has to work hard for her (Prov 2:3,4).

and raise your voice for understanding,

4 if you seek it like silver

and search for it as for hidden treasures,

Definitely, this is not merely academic wisdom. He or she must start with revelation, and study it diligently, in order to obtain spiritual wisdom. He is like a diligent miner. How does a miner search for silver and gold? If you want wisdom, you must listen to God attentively (Matthew 13:9), obey Him humbly (John 7:17), ask Him sincerely (James 1:5), and seek Him diligently (Isa 55:6-7)

Obtaining spiritual wisdom isn’t a once-a-week thing by attending worship and listening sermons. But, it is through the daily discipline of digging and searching the Scriptures. But in this age of instant gratification - microwave ovens, fast foods, digests, and numerous ’made easy’ books, many people are out of the habit of daily investing time and energy in digging deep into Scripture and learning wisdom from the Lord. Internet and social media have shortened the attention span of people. As Warren Weirsbe said, “It’s no wonder fewer and fewer people ’take time to be holy’ and more and more people fall prey to the enemies that lurk along the way."

According to verse 5, such discipline will promote our understanding to how we should "fear of the Lord." The emphasizes awe and reverence toward God. On the other hand, "knowledge of God" emphasises intimacy. This discipline of searching wisdom as diligent miner is for us to know God deeper and fuller.
