TEXT: Matthew 11:25-30 Third, no one knows God the Father except for Jesus and those to whom Jesus will reveal Him. Our passage reads, “neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.” Jesus is God. As is written in the beginning of the Gospel of John, Jesus has existed alongside God the Father for all eternity, from before the very beginning of Creation. There is no one else whom we can look to so that we can know God. Martin Luther said, “Here the bottom falls out of all merit, all powers and abilities of reason, or the free will men dream of; and it all counts nothing before God. Christ must do and must give everything.” Matthew Henry said, “The happiness of men lies in an acquaintance with God; it is life eternal, it is the perfection of rational beings. Those who would have an acquaintance with God, must apply themselves to Jesus Christ; for the light of the knowledge of the glory of God shines in the face of Christ. We are obliged to Christ for all the revelation we have of God the Father's will and love, ever since Adam sinned; there is no comfortable intercourse between a holy God and sinful man, but in and by a Mediator.” Man has tried to know God since he was formed. The many churches, temples, synagogues, and other houses of worship testify to that fact. But all of our buildings and rituals and efforts to live up to moral standards fail in bringing us closer to God. We can only know God the Father through God the Son, Jesus Christ.
