TEXT: Matthew 8:28-34 Jesus' confrontation with the Gadarene demoniacs -- or, more correctly, the demons possessing the Gadarene men -- show us important contrasts between the work of God and the work of the devil. We have seen how demon possession or demonic influence always leads to spiritual death and very often leads to physical death. Demonic influence is also the root of most division and conflict in the world. Satan is the divider-in-chief, and whenever he can influence one person or one group of people to oppose another, he will. Thus, the Gadarene men in this passage had been driven from their families and communities and were abiding in a graveyard.
