Genesis 5 is one of those texts we often skim over. We see a list of names and assume that there is not much we can learn. We quickly move past the list in an effort to get to the “real stuff” in the narrative that follows. This attitude has caused many to miss one of the richest chapters in the entire Bible. Genesis 5 is about much more than a list of names. Genesis 5 is one of the seminal texts in all of redemptive history.
