Some companies tend to think they have limited impact on sustainability if they are small or medium sized company. But today, my interview with Claus Ishøy, CEO and owner of Plastic manufacturer Carmo, shows that if you have a high level of ambition and show your commitment to work on sustainability, you may just be the exact partner, other companies are looking to team up with.

Carmo designs, produces, and sells their own injection molded plastic components for various sectors. They have for instance managed to recycle 60% of the waste they are producing instead of incinerating it. We discuss increasing demands from customers, particularly in medical and pharma, who say they will only work with suppliers that are actively reducing their CO2 footprint and who take sustainability seriously.

We also discuss:

  • The “low hanging fruits” companies can start with when they want to do better on sustainability
  • The real challenges that lie in Scope 3 emissions, which Carmo is determined to work on
  • How to get to a more sustainable business when you realize three things:

o It is extremely complex o You can’t do it alone o It needs to be implemented much faster than anticipated
