Rocket Lab (Nasdaq: RKLB), a global leader in launch services and space systems, has successfully completed the second of two Electron launches for NASA’s PREFIRE (Polar Radiant Energy in the Far-InfraRed Experiment) mission, achieving two launches within eleven days.

The mission launched from Rocket Labs Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand, deploying the second PREFIRE satellite into a 525 km orbit. The first mission was launched on May 25, 2024, from the same site, demonstrating Rocket Lab’s rapid launch capability.

Now in orbit for 10 months, both satellites will traverse the Arctic and Antarctic to study heat loss from Earth's polar regions. The data collected by the PREFIRE mission will enhance climate and ice-loss models, improving predictions of changes in ice, sea levels, and weather.

Rocket Lab founder and CEO, Sir Peter Beck stated: “Quickly deploying both satellites to orbit within eleven days of each other demonstrates our team’s skill and experience, allowing NASA to maximize PREFIRE’s time in space collecting important climate change data.”

Founded in 2006, Rocket Lab is an end-to-end space company with an established track record of mission success. Electron remains the United States’ second-most frequently launched rocket annually and one of the most frequently launched rockets globally.
