Wally Richardson threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Zola Davis in the corner of the end zone with nine seconds left Saturday night, giving the New York/New Jersey Hitmen a 16-15 victory over the Memphis Maniax in the XFL. It was the second TD hookup of the night for the Richardson and Davis, who combined for a 9-yarder to the third quarter after Memphis had taken a 15-3 lead. The Hitmen (3-4), who overcame three quarters of turnovers, penalties and missed opportunities, drove downfield 64 yards in nine plays for the win.

After a scoreless first quarter, Leo Araguz' 27-yard field goal in the opening seconds of the second gave the Hitmen a brief lead, but Jim Druckenmiller drove Memphis (3-4) 59 yards for a 6-3 lead on a 5-yard TD pass to Mark Thomas. Druckenmiller hit Daryl Hobbs for a 6-yard TD at 13:10, and Jeff Hall connected with a 41-yard field goal with 3 seconds left in the half to send the Maniax to the locker room with a 15-3 lead. Attendance on a rainy night was listed as 15,781 at Giants Stadium.
