It’s pretty crazy what a can of yellow spray paint can do!

Thank you for calling GIH where we instigate growth one call at a time where we utilize antiquated technology to deliver 3-minute leadership lessons every day of the week! This is message #88 and I am Aaron Havens.

The caterpillar D9 costs roughly 1 million dollars. This is a bulldozer that can move some serious dirty. It can do some serious damage and destruction to anything in it’s path.

I had the opportunity to work for a gentleman that grew up on big equipment and was a master at fixing and maneuvering, driving these workhorses. It was impressive.

Because of his operations he would buy used bulldozers, take them apart, clean up all the parts, put them back together and then repaint the dozers and even put fresh caterpillar stickers on them.

What he could get for 500,000 he would sell for 700,000. The whole process took about three weeks. And when these “like new” machines would roll out of our yard and on to the new owners… I would smile! We did good work. And my boss, yeah he probably smiled a lot too! We would go through a half a dozen of these a year. Talk about a money maker!

He knew how to take something used and less than… fix them up and make them extremely valuable.

Where in your personal life, or where in your professional life are you feeling the need to just get rid of something, sell something… out with the old, in with the new… when in reality, deconstructing it, reexamine it, cleaning it up and giving it a fresh coat of paint would do the job. I get it. I like new things and new projects too! Something exciting happens when I can just “dump” the old thing and move on to the next new thing.

I wonder though if the “dumping” or chasing in our lives is mistaking “change” for “progress”. Where in your life has boredom or lack of vision or something inside of you that is not centered caused you to make a quick change that really was not necessary. Sticking with the old, fixing it up, making tiny changes, small adjustments might mean less money and more profit. It could me less stress and clearer direction. Doing the hard work to stick with something, work with what you have, fix up something that’s broken might be where its at today!

Everything is 100% off if you just don’t buy it!

Thanks for calling in today. Tune in tomorrow for a fresh new topic. At the sound of the beep: What system of process are you frustrated with? Is it time to move on, or would a fresh coat of paint do the job?
