Are you more of a “Slow and Steady”, or “Ready, Fire, Aim”?

Thank you for calling GIH where we instigate growth one call at a time where we utilize antiquated technology to deliver 3-minute leadership lessons every day of the week! This is message #91 and I am Aaron Havens.

We all find ourselves somewhere today. Today a culmination of many minutes and days and weeks and years and etc.. put together that we look up, and here we are. How did you get where you're at today? In some areas of my life, I am definitely “Ready. Fire Aim”, I get a wild and crazy idea and I just go for it and deal with whatever consequences come. And other areas of my life I am very much slow and steady, very methodical and calculated.

Jerry Seinfeld employers what he calls "Chain Method" in which he writes a joke every day. Cal Newport in his book Deep Work talks about “Rhythmic philosophy”. So whether it's writing a joke, or doing deep work, or building something… the idea is that we are a culmination of our rhythms. Our best work, our greatest achievements, the most centering parts of who we are will more than likely come from the way we act, the way we think, what we do, who we interact with every single day.

My friends, what are some rhythms in your life that are important to you? We all have them. From toddler to parents to grandparents to business owners to teachers to nurses to bus drivers to window washers… we all have rhythms. Have you thought about that lately? If you want to be a master comedian, then follow Jerry Seinfeld's “Chain Method” of writing a joke every single day.

Yeah yeah yeah. Blah blah. This is so fundamental Aaron.

Alright, if you are a perfect person, in perfect alignment… GOOD JOB!

However, if you’re anything like me… regardless of what stage of life you are in… it’s easy for comfort, or being too busy, or for whatever reason… just letting life happen to you. Sometime Ready, Fire, Aim works. And sometimes… yeah… NOT SO MUCH.

So, are you bold enough today to explore your “rhythmic philosophy”. How are you on purpose moving the needle on the things that mean the most to you in life?

Does today need a little time of reflection to evaluate how you are spending your limited calories. Let’s be people that put our calories towards the areas closest to our being.

Thanks for calling in today. Tune in tomorrow for a fresh new topic. At the sound of the beep: Today, are you willing to walk through a 10 minute exercise? 5 minutes thinking through your last week. What Rhythms can you detect? Then spend 5 minutes planing what rhythms you will employ this week to emerge victorious in the way you determine. Leave me a message. Do you think you’ll do this exercise?
