Today we are speaking with two US Army veterans who were teammates in-country, and who have now teamed up to found the Objective Zero Foundation. The Foundation seeks to get military and veteran suicide rates to "functional zero," the Objective Zero team is working hard to produce a tool that our brothers and sisters can use to help them in their hour of need.

You can help Objective Zero with your time, expertise, and funds by clicking on the Objective Zero website link below.

Join us as we discuss:

  • How the Objective Zero Foundation was born of the struggles that co-founder Justin Miller faced during and after his deployments to Iraq, including a night where he almost killed himself.
  • How isolation from comrades in the military and the purpose provided by the military create conditions that exacerbate combat trauma.
  • The scope of the military/veteran suicide problem and how it far exceeds suicide rates in the general US population.
  • That female veterans have a rate of suicide that is 2.4x that of adult females in US non-military population.
  • The gaps that exist in current response organizations.
  • How the Objective Zero app is designed to function and the additional features that will allow those in need to reach out for support and camaraderie.
  • The successes that Objective Zero has had in raising funds for the app's development, and the remaining funding requirement to finish the app's development.
  • How Objective Zero "ambassadors" will be trained to provide outreach and support for those in crisis.
  • The vision for how Objective Zero can better connect veterans and service members in the future.
