Our most popular guest to date is back on the show to go deep into the psychology of violence. Desert Storm Marine Corps veteran turned mental health counselor, Chad Latta, is here to help us understand violence and how we relate to violence. In this episode, he won't be trying to scare you away with his stories of "ass cancer" like he did in Episode 006. So, if you want to learn about the lessons he learned in battling cancer, please go back to that episode. Before today's episode kicked off, Chad and I were engaged in some pre-recording discussion that I think was in line with the overall topic, so I've left it in.
In this episode we'll be talking about:
- Defining aggression and violence.
- The process of preparing a person for aggression and violence.
- Whether violence is a natural instinct and society's impact on violence.
- Percentages of combat engagement and how that has been increased over time.
- Factors that affect a person's willingness to engage in violence.
- How your personality changes under prolonged exposure to violence.
- Whether men are inherently more violent than women.
- Whether women face greater burdens in coming back from violent experiences or professions.
- Healthy expression of violence.
- Ways to adapt yourself after periods of violence and the impact of guilt and shame.
