虽然原著小说和剧的名字都有”Lovecraft”的大名，但这位现代恐怖文学之父并不是整个故事的核心，克苏鲁神话体系也仅仅是其中一个小元素。
科幻、灵异、巫术、女权、家族……都是这部剧的关键元素，而最重要的一点，在我看来就是黑人在种族隔离，以及曾经被压迫的触目惊心历史中的反抗。总体看来这部剧仿佛一个全都想有的大杂烩，但是它仍然讲了一个迷人的故事。
