Imagine a casual conversation spiraling into an enlightening discourse on mental health and addiction. That's precisely what happened when we had our good friend Curtis Phillips, a mental health psychiatrist hailing from Trinidad and Tobago, on our beloved show. We chatted about everything under the sun, from Curtis' high school days as a peer counselor in Trinidad to his present practice in sunny Florida.
We found ourselves deeply immersed in the various facets of mental health, focusing particularly on addiction and the stigmatization of these subjects. Curtis painted a vivid picture of the relationship between addiction, past trauma, and even personality traits, offering a fresh perspective on these often misunderstood issues. We addressed the rising opioid crisis in the US, societal attitudes toward men's mental health, and the over-prescription of ADHD medication like Adderall.
But don't worry, it wasn't all seriousness and medical jargon! Caleb kept us entertained with his personal anecdotes, including his struggles with skin sensitivity and how that affected his rugby days. I promise you, this episode isn't just for mental health professionals or athletes, it's for anyone seeking to understand the complexities of mental health, addiction, and even the human spirit. So, pull up a chair, grab a drink, and let's break down the barriers and stigmas surrounding mental health together.
