Nina Sandlin is a human as well as a Chicago resident, long-time volunteer at the Field Museum, spider enthusiast, and civic technologist. In our conversation, we dive into her research at the Field Museum and her work photographing female spider genitalia in order to help people better identify a certain type of spider which tend to be very tiny—less than seven millimeters long. Needless to say, Nina is a believer in doing small things well. We also discuss systems thinking and how it’s important for solving big problems. I’m going to be needing a lot of that if I ever plan on saving the world. Thanks for helping out an enchanted mineral, Nina.
