Hij studeerde buitenlandse betrekkingen, theologie en Europese geschiedenis in Amerika en verhuisde toen naar het land van zijn moeder. Toen hij zich in Amsterdam als migrant meldde bij de Vreemdelingenpolitie in een rij van bijna allemaal zwarte mensen, werd hij binnen tien minuten geholpen als de blanke met de privileges, en was onaangenaam verrast. In een gesprek van drie uur met Rik Delhaas gaf hij in 2008 zijn visie op de Nederlandse samenleving.
