Loss is a natural part of life, but the loss of a child is the most excruciating, unnatural loss one can endure.
In the '90s, Author Carole Sluski was a divorced mother of two young adults, and on the verge of marrying her new fiancé. During this happy and bustling time, tragedy struck. Her daughter Paula passed away from complications from a pulmonary embolism. Thus began Carole's harrowing journey of grief. Carole emphasizes that once she found peace with the fact that Paula's soul is safe in heaven, she had to redirect her energy to ensure her own health and well-being.
Grief is an intensely physical experience. The body stores stress and pain, causing severe health issues if left unaddressed. In the years following Paula's death, Carole was diagnosed with multiple chronic illnesses and underwent several surgeries for parts of her body that were malfunctioning. The crushing weight of her heartbreak caused distress, but her faith in Jesus helped her to see the pain through a new lens. Carole found deep intimacy and comfort in her relationship with God. New fruit bloomed in her life!
Most of all, Carole encourages us to focus intently on the happiness and the miracles in our life and amplify that joy unto others.
