Stephanie R. Weber is a writer, adventure-seeker, new grandmother and single mom. Stef has raised her two children, aged 26 and 17, all on her own for almost 15 years. Seeking support as a single income parent, Stef felt God calling her to be a voice of advocacy for other single parents in the church, but she consistently felt misunderstood and belittled by the Christians there. While she was physically welcomed into their community, the emotional rejection created an environment of alienation for Stef.
A friend invited Stef to a new church, which offered support and loving friendships for Stef, and male figures to represent a paternal influence for her kids. The expectation for single mothers to “do it all” only reinforces a narrative of isolation and comparison. God can take any situation and use it for His good! He will bring people to come into your life to lift you up and stand in the gap for your family. Community brings us strength, but our strength ultimately comes from God.
Our stories and experiences matter significantly to God. Stef lives in accordance with the reality that our worth does not come from anything on this earth. Today, she is fulfilling her calling as an advocate for all women seeking their identity in Christ despite the difficult circumstances they face.
