“A Remedy For Stage Fright” Isaiah 7:1-14

Big idea: If I know HIS Story I can trust God even when faced with overwhelming odds.

I. Living “under” the circumstances

a. Overwhelming odds.

b. Everyday disappointments, fatigue,

and struggle

c. Physical danger, financial hardship,

and social isolation

d. Serious illness, relational break-ups,

grief, and death

II. The Story of Ahaz’ Fright (Isaiah 7:1-14)

a. The King’s Fear (vs. 1-2)

b. God sends Isaiah to the King (vs. 3-6)

c. God’s message to Ahaz (vs. 7-9)

d. A reassurance offered and declined (vs. 10-12)

i. “Ask me for a sign.” (God offers a faith test)

ii. “I won’t” (Ahaz tests God’s patience)

e. A sign is given anyway. (vs. 13-14)

f. Feeble-faith Ahaz is rejected, but

God’s promise is not withdrawn.

III. The Remedy For My Stage Fright

a. Know His Story better and better.

b. Remember it in times of trouble.

i. He is a present refuge.

ii. He prepares us to stand firm

c. Live in Christ ”above” the

circumstances.
