What is Inner Strength?

Psychologists use the term “finding inner strength” to refer loosely to the wide range of mental and emotional resources (behaviors, skills, and attitudes) that keep us stable and adaptable in life. The source of our inner strength comes from within.

12 Ways To Cultivate Inner Strength

Here are 12 Ways to cultivate inner strength (Listen to the full episode of the podcast):

1. Practice Self-Compassion and Self-love – Self-love and self-compassion are important during hard times. Give yourself time and space to heal.

2. Silence the Inner Critic – Silencing the inner critic is also key to cultivating inner strength. Speak to yourself like you would a child. Speak to your inner child with positive affirmations and love.

3. Deal with your “Dry Bones” – Harbouring “dry bones”—self-doubt, regrets, anger, and frustration, can erode your inner strength. It’s critical to terms with them to powerfully move forward and cultivate inner strength. This is all about reinvention and making space for what’s new.

4. Practice deep abdominal breathing - Keeps your brain sharp and focused in the present moment when job stress steals your breath away.

5. Set Your intentions for the day – an intention represents a commitment to carrying out an action in the future – which helps with reducing stress.

6. Focus on Mindfulness - Regular and sustained mindfulness practice has been shown to improve attentional control, increase awareness of internal and external experiences and reduce stress.

7. Have a nighttime routine – your brain thrives on regularity so having a nighttime routine is crucial.

8. Embrace the Holistic Wealth Method – Think of all your decisions as either a depletion or an addition to your holistic wealth bank account – and focus on activities that enrich you.

9. Regular exercise and healthy eating – Exercise such as brisk walking re-calibrates a fatigued brain and reduces your risk of developing anxiety by almost 60%.

10. Get Connected with Loved Ones – Getting connected with friends and loved ones reduces loneliness and stress.

11. Positive Self-Talk - can stop the catastrophic mind chatter that causes work stress and keep you calm in stressful situations.

12. Find Your Purpose (Your Why) – Remember your “why” and embrace your mission and purpose (refocus and re-energize).
