The Rev. Eric Stefanski brings us Dr. Martin Luther’s statements in his theses for the Heidelberg Disputation as to who is and is not a theologian in this consideration of the Epistle (Romans 11:33–36) and Gospel (St. John 3:1–15) for this holy festival. It is only the one who sees God in cross and sorrow that is to be considered a theologian, as only in the cross of Christ are we able really to know the only true God.
