Imagine having the courage to stand back up after an assassin shot you on stage, rather than the rational impulse to remain in cover. And not just stand up, but also having the courage to rally the crowd to “Fight!” as Donald Trump did while under fire. No one, not even Trump’s worst critics, can possibly deny his physical and mental courage in that moment just after he barely missed having his head blown off.
The next day, Trump called on Americans to “fear not” while crediting God with his escape from death. It recalled FDR’s exhortation that “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”
That is what this moment demands of us, too. Do we hug the ground when confronted with evil and wickedness? Do we panic into blind retaliation? Or do we do as Trump did—stand firm, raise our fist, and pledge to fight it?
That moment could well define our character, both individually and as a nation.

Let’s stand up and fight.
